This is what they are going to do for an Encore!
It's Christmas time and guess who's back under the tree for an Encore?
Excuse the bad pun, but it can only be Encore!
Cowichan's women's choir will answer to this musical question "what do The Nutcracker Suite and Jingle Bells have in common?" during a pair of shows next weekend.
"Conductor, Christine Dandy, and her spirited ensemble of 25, accompanied by the incomparable, Rykie Avenant, are abuzz with anticipation as they get ready to present an eclectic program of traditional and culturally inspired Christmas music," event promotional material reads
"The program includes a generous sprinkling of contemporary seasonal numbers with a hit of jazz to add a bit of spice! Perennial favourites from the English composers/arrangers, David Wilcox and John Rutter feature strongly as well as contemporary works from Mary Donnelly and George Strid.
"Encore! is particularly proud and excited to premiere an original work composed for the choir by their very own, Deborah Sumner entitled Winter Gifts. We also have it on good authority that the ladies will reveal their fun-loving side with one or two humourous seasonal selections.
"Encore! takes great delight in introducing soprano, Alissa Lennox, this year's mentorship student, in a solo presentation of the beautiful "Domine Deus" from Vivaldi's "Gloria". The choir is thrilled to have Alissa singing with them this season who, in addition to her vocal abilities, is an accomplished equestrian.
"The audience will be in for a musical treat with a performance by the quartet, Coru featuring Rykie Avenant, Beverley Holmes and Deborah Sumner of Encore! and well known music teacher and vocalist, Laura Cardriver.
"The audience will also be treated to a sneak preview of the South Island Musical Theatre Society's upcoming production of Oklahoma. The performance will be rounded out with a community carol sing-a-long accompanied on the pipe organ by Trish Dandy, music teacher at Quamichan Middle School.
