This Sunday, classical concert pianist Cary Chow of Vancouver takes the Chemainus Classical Concert series to Extremes.

Chow's Extremes will fill St. Michael’s Church in Chemainus with the music of Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann and Franz Liszt.

“Once again, Cary Chow keeps us on the edge of our seats as he applies his flawless technique to masterful interpretations of tour de force from the solo piano repertoire,” states an event press release.

Chow has performed concerts throughout North America as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber pianist. He is the performance pianist for the Avant Chamber Ballet.

By age 15, he had achieved the AVCM and LVCM (Victoria) and ARCT (Toronto) diplomas in piano performance. He made his New York recital debut at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at the age of 16. At age 18, he was awarded the DipRAM, the highest prize from the Royal Academy of Music in London, England, where he studied with renowned professor Christopher Elton.

Chow is a former faculty member of the University of Victoria and Victoria Conservatory of Music and former guest professor at the Beijing Conservatory of Music and Attached Middle School, Shanghai Conservatory and Xing Hai Conservatory Guangzhou.

As a recording artist, Chow has released solo recordings of Rachmaninoff Sonata No. 1 and Variations on a Theme of Corelli, Schumann Carnaval and Kreisleriana and collaborative recordings, including a recently released CD with David Cooper of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra on French Horn.

Tickets for Chow’s performance are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at Salamander Books in Ladysmith, Little Town Market Co. in Chemainus, the Chemainus Festival Inn, Ocean Soul Book Caffé in Crofton, Ten Old Books in Duncan and Valley Vines to Wines in Mill Bay or by calling 250-748-8383.
