Esso robbery ends in arrest
A Cowichan Valley man has been arrested after allegedly robbing an Esso gas station at knifepoint.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to a hold-up alarm at the York Road Esso at about 9:15 p.m. on Saturday.
“Staff indicated that a male had entered the store armed with a knife and demanded money,” Cpl. Kevin Day said, adding the man then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash toward McDonald’s. “The police initiated a search and the suspect was located a short time later in front of the Subway restaurant (on the Trans-Canada Highway),” Day said.
The 49-year-old suspect was arrested without incident and he since has been released from police custody.
The theft is still under investigation, and police have yet to recommend charges to Crown counsel.
