Donations needed at Duncan's food bank

foodbankWEB.jpg

Hamper cupboards are bare at the Cowichan food basket, so community donations are urgently needed.

Manager Colleen Vigeant’s grocery list includes canned soups and pastas, canned vegetables and fruits, plus coffee and tea for the 45 hampers handed out to local families thrice weekly.

“Our shelves are getting low so we’re putting out the APB to those who support us,” she said from the busy Duncan food bank.

“We get wonderful support with fresh produce but this is our summer rush.

“It’s not a crisis but it’s getting low.

“I don’t like to send anyone away hungry.”

Food left after hampers are filled is used in the food bank’s community soup kitchen.

Donations of food or cash are welcome at 5810 Garden St. between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Call 250-746-1566.
