Police recover stolen vehicle from popular dumping ground
South Cowichan cops recovered another stolen vehicle Wednesday — this time a 1993 Honda Civic hatchback — from the gravel pit off Sooke Lake Road, Shawnigan Lake RCMP staff said.
Oak Bay police are seeking the Victoria owner of the Civic that had engine and stereo parts pulled.
Staff said the gravel pit, and an area at Shawnigan’s Kapoor Hill, are popular places for thieves to dump Cowichan and capital vehicles after joy rides and senseless damage.
Despite knowing about the two dumping grounds, police have neither the manpower nor the time to mount stakeout action, RCMP staff said.
South-end residents can report suspicious activity to the RCMP at 250-743-5514.
