ECO Depot defeated

electionwatchcmyk.jpg

South Cowichan resoundingly does not want the ECO Depot.

But a two-to-one "no" vote only brought one of the candidates crusading against the facility to office.

Bruce Fraser, handily took Shawnigan Lake over incumbent Ken Cossey in tonight's CVRD vote.

Gerry Giles easily held onto her seat in Cobble Hill over anti-ECO Depot crusader Dara Quast, and Mike Walker had a convincing victory over Angela Auchincloss in Mill Bay.

But the non-binding vote on the recyclng facility clearly indicated the community was opposed.

Walker and Giles both said they would take their direction on the site's future from the referendum, while Fraser was opposed no matter the result of the vote.
