Pompeo verdict unlikely to be delivered Friday
It seems unlikely a verdict will be reached Friday in the aggravated assault trial of Const. David Pompeo.
Judge Josiah Wood was due to hand down a decision in Duncan provincial court following eight days of testimony revolving around the 2009 shooting of Bill Gillespie near Chemainus.
But proceedings went into the voir dire stage Thursday where Wood was trying to determine the admissibility of evidence.
Defence lawyer Ravi Hira called several experts to the stand who testified about specifics about RCMP training that would have prompted Pompeo to react the way he did after stopping Gillespie on suspicion of driving while prohibited.
If the trial goes over the allotted time, it's unknown when it would resume due to court scheduling.
Gillespie and Pompeo have offered conflicting testimony during the trial. Gillespie said he completely obeyed orders and Pompeo said he was faced with several threat cues that led him to believe his life was in danger.
