Lake Cowichan RCMP are seeking information after a dog was shot and killed Thursday on Cowichan Lake Road.

The investigation, to date, reveals a man was walking his two dogs when he was aggressively approached by three other uncontrolled dogs.

The three large-breed dogs apparently backed the man and his two dogs into a ditch. A man in the neighbourhood came to his aid and fatally shot one of the dogs.

Officers are continuing their investigation into the incident. They specifically want to examine the use of a firearm in a public area and determine whether the action was necessary to protect the man and his dogs from injury.

Witnesses to the incident or anyone with information can contact Lake Cowichan RCMP at 250-746-6668.
