Police are seeking the driver of a stolen vehicle who was involved in a four-car accident Monday morning.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP describe the suspect as a five-foot-10 Native male, wearing a black Ecko brand hoodie.

He was seen with obvious injuries, holding his stomach and leg, from the 7 a.m. accident on the Trans-Canada Highway at Coronation Avenue.

The man was the lone occupant of a Ford Taurus involved in the accident. Before police arrived, he got out of the vehicle and ran east on Coronation Avenue.

The accident occurred when the Taurus, heading north on the TCH, failed to stop at a red light, according to police. It struck a purple 2007 Ford Edge heading east on Coronation.

The Edge spun into a yellow 2006 Chev Cobalt that was travelling west on Coronation. The Taurus, meantime, veered to the right and drove into the back of a 2009 Chev pick-up that was attempting to turn right onto the TCH from Coronation.

B.C. Ambulance personnel attended to the other drivers and passengers. Only minor injuries were reported.

Police spoke to the owner of the Taurus and he confirmed it had been stolen about a half hour earlier.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477).
