Accidents are just waiting to happen when vehicles run red lights.

Such was the case Monday morning during what police are describing as a hit-and-run incident at the intersection of Green Road and the Trans-Canada Highway.

Witnesses reported to North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP that a grey Toyota Corolla was turning left off the highway onto Green Road on a green light when a blue Ford Focus heading south on the highway ran the red light and collided with the Corolla.

The Corolla was not drivable after sustaining significant damage. The driver was examined at the scene by B.C. Ambulance attendants and released.

The driver of the Focus, described as an elderly female, stopped briefly at the scene but left without providing any information. The vehicle sustained damage to the front passenger side.

Anyone with information on this hit-and-run is asked to contact North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
