Shooting in Shawnigan Lake bush triggers fines for two men
Shooting in south Cowichan earned charges and fines for two capital males, Shawnigan Lake RCMP say.
The two shooters — whose names weren't released — were charges after Mounties received numerous shots-fired calls from residents in the Kingburne and Renfrew Road areas, especially during weekends and evenings.
"RCMP attended on the 13th of January to the Kapoor Main area West of Shawnigan Lake around 3 p.m., and charged two Victoria males with discharge of a firearm in a non-shooting area, carrying a fine of $345," Sgt. Rob Webb says in a release.
It was unknown if the shooting was related to recent residents' reports to the News Leader Pictorial complaining of 'big bangs' in the south-end.
Police are asking local citizens and non-residents to take advantage target use at local gun clubs on the Malahat and in Glenora, he notes.
Police and folks living in these areas are concerned for their safety, and for those using these weapons.
"Shawnigan Lake RCMP have been working with area neighbors in the Renfrew Road area, as well as Timber West, Island Timberlands and Margaret Forestry Company," Webb says.
"These companies do not want illegal shooting on their lands."
