The driver of a green Ford Explorer suffered the most serious injury from a vehicle full of occupants that rolled over at the intersection of Frayne Road and the Trans-Canada Highway near Serious Coffee in Mill Bay Wednesday afternoon.

"The main injury was the driver's hand,'' said Chris Abbott, who came upon the accident while returning from Victoria and was on the scene before police, firefighters and ambulance crews arrived.

"I think he got something sharp through it. There was quite a pool of blood on the ground.''

Abbott said there was another woman in the passenger seat beside the driver, two more women and a baby in the vehicle. None of the other occupants appeared to sustain any significant injuries.

"There was a little baby a week old, all wrapped up in a blanket and stuff,'' observed Abbott.

A member of the Malahat Fire Department travelling in a vehicle was also one of the first to lend assistance, Abbott said, before emergency personnel arrived.

Mill Bay Fire Department members, Shawnigan Lake RCMP and B.C. Ambulance attended the scene.

"They had to put a little foam on the road because a little gas got out,'' said Abbott.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident. The vehicle hit the meridian in the middle of the road, Abbott said, went up and over it and landed on the driver's side.

All the occupants except for the driver got out via the back door.
