One of Duncan’s soon-to-be-vacant key public service spots has been filled and the mayor is signalling the city’s top spot could also be filled as soon as next week.

Penticton’s Karen Burley will replace Duncan’s Director of Corporate services Lynn Ketch Monday.

Meanwhile, Mayor Phil Kent said Chief Administrative Officer Tom Ireland’s replacement is also in the works but won’t be confirmed until an offer is accepted and a deal is struck with the candidate.

“We’ve had a lot of candidates for that position,” Kent said Tuesday of Ireland’s replacement.

“We had 50 applicants and we narrowed the list down to 10 and we’re now looking at four candidates,” Kent explained, noting years of general experience, with a specific background in legal and planning work in communities with a similar demographic profile as Duncan are factors in the search.

Both Ketch and Ireland are retiring, but will stay on board at city hall until April 26 to assist in the transition.

Burley’s last day as the corporate officer in Penticton was Friday.
