Elderly woman loses control of her car and goes over an embankment
An elderly female driver from Sidney was fortunate to suffer only minor external injuries after her car rolled over an embankment last Friday.
The 84-year-old woman was on her way to the Mill Bay ferry terminal on Mill Bay Road when she lost control of the vehicle. The car went into the ditch on the right hand side of the road, but then overcorrected and wound up going over a 30-metre embankment on the left side, according to Shawnigan Lake RCMP.
"The vehicle appears to have rolled several times and landed on the beach,'' noted Sgt. Rob Webb.
The woman was able to free herself from the vehicle and called for help.
The Shawnigan Lake high-angle rope rescue team, with help from the Mill Bay fire department, managed to put her on a stretcher board and pulled her back to the road.
The woman was transported to hospital for further examinations. She doesn't remember how or why she wound up going off the road.
