Crofton and Ladysmith assist Chemainus firemen with Cook Street blaze
The Chemainus Fire department received back-up from the Crofton and Ladysmith departments to fight a house fire at 3290 Cook Street in Chemainus Thursday morning.
Crofton fire chief Lee Burridge said his department received the call just before 11 a.m. and sent one truck to assist Chemainus while Ladysmith also provided assistance with the blaze.
The house was a two-story, with an entry level basement.
"It was quite a bit of damage,'' said Burridge.
Cause of the fire is still to be determined. "The people weren't home,'' said Burridge, alleviating concerns about the residents.
Crofton firefighters remained on scene in their support role for about two hours, Burridge said.
Neighbouring structures were watched closely by firefighters.
"There's an R.V. parked right beside the house,'' said Burridge. "There was a concern about that catching.''
The Chemainus crew conducted the mop-up after Crofton and Ladysmith firefighters departed.
