Valley vocalist wants to score Canuck anthem singing gig
Cobble Hill’s Whitney Williams thinks she can rock the Rog.
That is the Rogers Arena in front of a massive crowd of Canucks fans.
But that’s only if she wins the top spot in the Canucks National Anthem Contest ‘Rock the Rog’ presented by Klipsch.
Williams, 19 but turning 20 soon, said she’s been selected in the Top 20 and it’s up to viewer’s votes of participant’s youtube auditions to see if she makes the next step, which is another cut of 10 hopefuls.
If the classical voice student at the University of Victoria makes the next cut, she will be singing the Canadian and American national anthems in front of a panel of judges at the arena.
If she’s chosen, it will be her first time singing in front of a crowd that large.
“That will be the biggest crowd for sure and that would be very exciting,” she said.
Williams discovered the contest through a tweet on Twitter spotted by her goalie brother who keeps tabs on the Canucks feed.
Voting opened online at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 and closes Thursday, Aug. 29.
