Body discovered near Friendship Trail Monday identified as Ian Robert Finch
The B.C. Coroner's Service has identified Duncan's Ian Robert Finch as the deceased located Monday evening in a rural section of property in Duncan.
Vancouver Island regional coroner Matt Brown said the cause of the 43-year-old's death is undetermined, but there's "certainly no indication of suspicious activity."
An autopsy had been conducted Wednesday, but results could take months, Brown said.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP located Finch's body Monday evening near the Friendship Trail's section by the Cowichan Commons mall.
"Police attended and located the body of a male in the bushes," stated North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Cpl. Jon Stuart in a media release. "As in all deaths of this nature, it is being treated seriously, until the facts of the case can be determined.
"At this time the police are still investigating," he said.
Police cruisers were parked along the trail near the Commons mall Tuesday afternoon. The new trail acts as a connector path from downtown Duncan to Cowichan Commons.
Details about a service were unknown at press time.
