Cause undetermined concerning fire that closed Chemainus' Pizza Mill

The cause of a fire that recently damaged and closed Chemainus' Pizza Mill is undetermined, the fire marshal says.

Rob Clark, North Cowichan's assistant to the fire commissioner, said the blaze at 9732 Chemainus Road left about $70,000 worth of heat and smoke damage in the insured bistro and building.

An apartment above the pizza place also sustained some smoke damage, Clark noted.

"Fire damage was minimal," he stressed. "It smoked out the whole building."

Smoke blackened Pizza Mill's interior.

It was unknown how long the pizza business will be closed.
