The driver of a grey Toyota Corolla was killed Thursday morning after losing control of the vehicle and striking a tree on Telegraph Road.

On Monday, the B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man as Miles Alexander Phillips, aged 48, of Duncan.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP received a call from B.C. Ambulance about the incident shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday.

Since the accident occurred on the dividing line for the North Cowichan/Duncan and Shawnigan Lake RCMP, officers from both detachments attended.

The roadway was closed for several hours while the scene was being investigated. The B.C. Coroners' Service and a traffic reconstructionist attended and the incident is still under investigation.
