Two people were injured during Friday's three-car crash at Green Road and the Island Highway, North Cowichan's south-end fire chief says.

The wreck in the merge lane, between the Peter Baljet Chev dealership and the back of Cowichan Commons' Canadian Tire store, involved a van and two cars, Rob MacDowell explained.

The incident happened on sunny, dry roads at about 10:15 a.m.

It saw two fire trucks and nine firefighters respond to the triple-vehicle collision that did not produce life-threatening injuries, he said.

Police were investigating the crash's exact cause at press time.
