Updated: Mountain biker rescued from Mount Prevost Sunday
An injured mountain-biker is believed to be recovering well after being rescued from Mount Prevost Sunday.
The Mount Prevost Downhill racer plunged off the steep race trail, a North Cowichan Search-and-Rescue crew member explained from the scene at around 3:30 p.m.
Mike Neeland said the male rider suffered suspected back and neck injuries, and was reached by high-angle rescue crews.
SAR members arrived to help paramedics and volunteer fire crews from North Cowichan and Ladysmith retrieve the cyclist.
"He's A-OK," race spokesman Robin Dutton said Tuesday of the rider he believed was named Jake, of Nanaimo.
"He was wiggling his fingers and toes, but paramedics wanted to take precautions by taking him out."
SAR's Janice Frueh stressed paramedics and firefighters were on scene long before SAR's rope team.
"We were assisting them by rigging a belay system to allow them to get the subject, already packaged in the stretcher, safely down a steep grade trail, to the waiting ambulance," she said.
