Local Mountie on Alexa's team

Constable Joe Power, of the North Cowichan-Duncan RCMP detachment has been selected to join 312 other police officers in B.C. who have been named to Alexa's 2013 Team.

Since the tragic loss of four-and-one-half year old Alexa Middelaer on a Ladner Street in May 2008, her parents have worked hard to keep her memory alive and impaired drivers off the road.

Created in 2009, Alexa's team is a partnership between the Middelaer family, the British Columbia Road Safety Foundation and the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.

The program recognizes both RCMP and municipal police officers across B.C. who have demonstrated a strong commitment to getting impaired drivers off B.C. roads. Police officers selected for the team are required to have taken at least 12 criminally impaired drivers off the road.
