The good and the bad of this week in Cowichan for February 2
This we like
Agriculture used to be one of the heartbeat activities in this valley, second to only forestry.
Times have changed. Farming his slipped into more of a background activity.
But it shouldn’t be. Food security is important. Farmers are important.
The Islands Agriculture Show may be an important step to re-emphasizing that. It’s a welcome addition.
This we don’t
Those who use the Cowichan River regularly know what we’re talking about when we mention rock snot.
The slimy algae may be non-toxic, but in those areas where it has taken hold, it sure can take the enjoyment out of using the river.
To make matters worse, it is spreading. We’re glad officials are looking into it and hopeful that something can be done.
