Gunn guides Meekers to a nice haul of chinook salmon in Nootka Sound
Even famous people need a competent guide to reel in the big fish at Nootka Island Fishing Lodge, off the west coast of Vancouver Island.
Ronnie Gunn of Duncan has been fishing since he was three years old.
He started last year at Nootka Island Lodge, working on the dock. Gunn, now 16, started bringing in better catches than his dad and was promptly promoted to a guide this year.
When former hockey broadcaster Howie Meeker and wife Lea showed up at the lodge to do some fishing, Gunn was their man.
Gunn guided the Meekers to a limit Chinook salmon this summer in Nootka Sound, with weights of 24, 22, 22 and 16 pounds.
Now, that’s fishing!
