Earl Morris — 2011 North Cowichan-Duncan Sports Wall of Fame inductee
A multi-talented athlete growing up, Earl excelled in hockey, baseball and fastball. The smooth-skating defenceman went on to play with the Kelowna Buckaroos of the B.C. Junior Hockey League and then to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Canadian Hockey League where, in the 1970-71 season, he was named captain.
Due to an eye injury, his hopes of playing in the National Hockey League were cut short. Earl did, however, play several years of professional hockey in Austria. Earl honed his fastball pitching skills in the Duncan Men's and Victoria Stuffy McGinnis leagues.
Earl's work ethic, knowledge of the game and dedication to fitness propelled him to play for the Victoria Royals. Following years of provincial titles, the Royals won the national title in 1983 and Earl was a mainstay in the pitching rotation.
The hard-throwing pitcher with incredible command joined the Victoria Payless (later named the Athletics) to win the World Masters tournament in 1992 in Australia.
Earl's individual awards include being named the Softball B.C. Masters Athlete of the Year in 1991, 1995 and 1999, and being chosen top pitcher in the provincial tournament in 1999.
