Four wins in a row have kept Cowichan United in a share of top spot in Div. 2 of the Island Soccer League.

Cowichan defeated the Vic West Wolves 2-1 on the road and is tied for first place but with a game in hand on Lakehill United.

“The opposing team was a bunch of giants,’’ noted Cowichan coach Neall Rowlings of Vic West. “They literally looked like a rugby squad and our speed was too much for them to handle.’’

Steven Zorich knocked a shot into the top corner off a pass from Nick Crichton 20 minutes into the second half. Vic West tied it on a penalty shot 10 minutes later.

Cowichan ended up with a player red-carded with 25 minutes left. But the team didn’t change a thing and worked harder with 10 men.

Jorden Korven notched the game-winner into the bottom corner. Korven leads the division in goals.

"This is definitely not how we planned to deal with this game, but we got another win,'' noted Rowlings of the shorthanded situation.

Jose Muro played an outstanding game.

"He worked harder than I have ever seen him play,'' Rowlings pointed out. "He has really stepped up this year as our captain.''

Cowichan is off to Powell River Sunday. Powell River beat Cowichan three times last season but Rowlings is in no mood for a repeat.

"We are not handing them any free points this season,'' he declared.
