Double shutout for Achurch
Darian Achurch recorded his second shutout in goal for Cowichan United in a 5-0 Div. 2 Island Soccer League win over Nanaimo United at home.
After filling in for Div. 1 Cowichan LMG Pringle in a 2-0 win over Gorge Friday, Achurch kept the slate clean again for United Saturday.
The last time the teams met it was the first game of the season for Cowichan and it lost 1-0 “when we should have won,’’ according to coach Neall Rowlings.
“This time was very different with three suspensions, four injuries, we had to make do.’’
Jason Ovans was signed and he changed Cowichan’s team for the better. Russell Lederer and Colin Knight were additional call-ups and Ovans, who hadn’t played in years, figured in all the scoring with a goal and assists on the other four.
“He was just amazing on our set pieces,’’ noted Rowlings.
Other goals scored by Jordon Korven, Jordan Crocker, Knight and Jacob Ready.
