Riley Buckner

Riley Buckner was only 22 months old when she started skating and four years old when she first competed.

That makes the 13-year-old Fuller Lake Skating Club member and Grade 8 Chemainus Secondary School student a veteran of the ice.

“Back then, it was kind of more playful and I just did it for fun,’’ said Buckner. “I always wanted to be at the arena the first chance I got and wouldn’t leave till the last hours.

"Now it’s more serious and, with school and other sports, it’s taken very seriously among me and my family. I always try my hardest and have fun when I’m here.’’

Buckner recently earned first in Senior Silver freeskate during the island interclub competition.

“She’s a very, very talented girl,’’ said coach Blaine Moore.

Buckner is also dancing again and will be taking her Gold freeskate in February.

She’s on the ice three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to perfect her skills.
