Cowichan junior Thunderbirds are off to a great start to the basketball season.

The T-Birds remained on a roll by winning the Victoria Tipoff Tournament.

Cowichan crushed Mount Douglas 59-26 in the Victoria tournament quarterfinal. Charles led the way again with 18 points while McDonald had 12 and Jordy Frost added 10.

The semifinal brought a rematch against Shawnigan Lake and Cowichan prevailed again 57-34 in convincing fashion, with 17 points from McDonald, 13 from Charles and 12 from Hudson.

The championship game was no contest, either, as Cowichan blitzed Sullivan Heights 43-21.

Scoring for Cowichan was led by Hudson’s 17 points. Charles contributed another 10.

Cowichan was ranked No. 5 in the pre-season provincial poll, but is sure to move up.
