Spencer Manton

Great athletic ability took Spencer Manton into new territory when she moved from Ladysmith to Brentwood College in Grade 10.

Her Grade 12 year is proving to be a memorable one, mainly because of the rowing scholarship she has received at Indiana University to start in 2013.

Manton had no background in rowing prior to her arrival at Brentwood.

When told she should row, Manton said, “I thought about it and I said, ‘why not?’ I tried it and I liked it.’’

She picked it up so well in just three short years there were numerous other university offers.

Volleyball also came into her life in a big way at Brentwood, particularly last year as a starter with the team that captured a bronze medal at provincials and this year as captain of the squad that qualified for the B.C. championships again.

“This last year was crazy,’’ said Manton. “There was some great players at provincials. I think me knowing about them already gave me a big advantage when I came into my senior year in playing.’’

“I couldn’t have asked for a better leader,’’ said Brentwood senior girls’ volleyball coach Jill Fougner.
