The Cowichan Valley’s Youth Athletes of the Year were treated like royalty Sunday at Shawnigan Lake School.

The annual News Leader Pictorial awards luncheon, honouring the top 20 of 2012 in a wide variety of sports, featured plenty of attention to detail.

That included commemorative placemats designed by Wendy Charles as a great keepsake for the athletes.

All the members of the top 20 also received commemorative hoodies courtesy of Catalyst Paper’s Crofton division, award certificates and a package of coupons and gift cards from valley businesses. Brent Clausen and Andrew Leong supplied the technical expertise and equipment that included a slide show of all the athletes.
