The Cowichan junior Thunderbirds basketball team is a force to be reckoned with this season, but met its match during the Oak Bay Gary Taylor alumni tournament before Christmas.

The T-Birds fell 47-32 to St. Michael’s University School in the semifinals despite a dozen points apiece from Josh Charles and Tyler Hudson.

“We did not play great this game, but St. Michael’s deserves credit for playing well,’’ noted Cowichan coach Lucky Walia.

Cowichan went on to beat Oak Bay 63-58 for third place on 39 points by Charles while Jordy Frost chipped in with 10.

Cowichan crushed Lambrick Park 57-30 in its opening game, with Charles scoring 26 and Travis McDonald 10.
