Mid-Island Lightning’s U14 and U12 field lacrosse teams are heading to the provincial championships in Burnaby next week.

The tournament takes place Feb. 22 to 24.

The U14s won two playoff games over Oceanside 10-4 and 12-6 Feb. 3.

James Taylor scored a hat trick in the first game while Mathieu Jung and Trey Cleemoff added two goals apiece. Singles came from Michael Shepard, Brian Robb and Patrick Little.

Taylor added another hat trick in the second game, with Kyle Page and Robb netting two goals each. Jung, Colton Lidstone, Thomas Vaesen, Jacob Taylor and Tyson Hendra rounded out the scoring.

Parker Teufel was outstanding in goal during both games.

The Lightning advanced to the island championship against Pacific Rim 2 last Saturday and lost 7-4. Robb (2), Lidstone and James Taylor had the goals for Mid-Island.

Penalties at crucial times proved costly for the Lightning.

The U12s won their island championship game over Vic Field 2 12-2 Saturday.
