Cowichan wouldn't have scored as many points without Wood
Cowichan Rugby Club's First Division Piggies men gobbled up another victory heading into the Thanksgiving weekend break.
Cowichan traveled to Comox and devoured the Kickers 43-13 to keep their season winning streak intact.
It was the Owen Wood show for the most part on the scoreboard with three tries and four converts. Robbie McDonnell added a pair of tries, Mike Needham scored another and Cowichan was also awarded a penalty try.
"We came out with a game plan of grinding down their forwards for the first 30 minutes, keeping play tight with ball in hand,'' explained Cowichan coach Gord McGeachy.
Cowichan executed the plan fairly well and capitalized in the last 10 minutes of the half, running in five tries to take a 31-0 lead at the half.
"Unfortunately, we took our foot off the gas in the second half and gave up a couple of soft tries before we got things straightened out and came back and finished with the final two tries of the game,'' McGeachy noted.
The Cowichan Thirds were shorthanded for a trip to Victoria, but played a tremendous game to earn a 17-17 tie against Velox, the top team in the island division.
Players on both teams will now satisfy their hungers off the field for a weekend before digesting more rugby again.
